Metroid Fan Forum Rules and Policies Basic Rules:
1) No Swearing.
2) No name calling, teasing, etc. Debates are allowed, don't make it personal.
3) When you create a new topic, please post it in the correct category.
4) Please post relevant posts. No 1-word posts. Don't just respond with a smilie face, or a "I agree." Add something to your posts, we want to hear what you have to say. There is no set rule to this, but if a mod thinks it's spam, it will be removed. 5) Try to stay somewhat on topic, but it is ok if posts start to go a little off topic, this is a forum, they usually do.
6) No double topics.
7) Please use the 'Search' function to make sure you are not creating a topic that has already been made.
Do your best to use proper spelling and grammar. We have spell check so there is no excuse for bad spelling.
9) No double (or more) posting. Excessive double posting will result in a warning, suspension, or ban.
10) When replying to a previous message, only quote as much of the original as necessary. Don't repeat a long message, then put "I agree!" at the bottom. It's hard to read and slow to download.
Staff Rules:
1) The MFF staff is here to enforce the rules and policies without discrimination to friend, foe, or fellow staff members. No one person is above the law. When members break the rules, the staff members have the right to punish the act as they see fit and according to the rules and policies in this do*censored*ent.
2) If a fellow staff member is seen breaking the rules constantly, then it is an administrators job to correct them on their mistake. If the behavior continues despite a warning from an administrator, then the issue comes to the staff members role. If the staff member in question is a moderator of the forums, then an Administrator can act as they see fit. If a fellow moderator observes the behavior, then the complaint should be submitted in Private Message form to an Administrator to be dealt with.
3) All staff should lead by example and follow the rules they set. All the rules that apply to members apply to the staff as well. By not doing so, the staff member is open to the punishment(s) of rule #2.
4) The staff is to judge without taking sides. However, this does not mean that the staff has to hold their tongue on what they say to you. If a mod hurts your feelings about something they have said, and it isn't flaming, too bad.
Member Rules:
1) Quality Control
Spamming is defined as posting repeatedly without saying anything new, posting without adding anything to the discussion, posting excessive off-topic remarks, or posting that offends those around you. Spamming is against the rules; don't do it. This is Internet 101. You get one warning and then action will be taken. Please note that this does not apply to the "Spamination" board.
Flaming is defined as making unprovoked and offensive attacks on another member, group of members, or group of people. Pointless and irrelevant attacks on your fellow members' sexuality, ethnicity, political affiliation, religion or pretty much anything about them will not be tolerated. Debates on these subjects are allowed, but will be closely monitored by the staff. If the discussion starts to cross the line to flaming, then the staff will act accordingly.
Creating drama where drama doesn't exist will also not be tolerated. Your first amendment rights don't extend to shouting "Fire!" in the movie theatre. Don't mess with people.
A high post count doesn't make you a good member. Quality posts that add to other's enjoyment of the site do.
Multiple or repeated posting in order to increase your post count is not allowed.
Advertising, spamming, and trolling is not allowed. This includes using the Private Messaging system to spam or flame other members.
Please wait a reasonable amount of time before bumping posts. This should be 12+ hours.
We reserve the right to remove offensive posts without notice.
2) Adult Content
Absolutely no, I repeat, NO adult content is allowed to be posted on this forum.
3) Secondary Accounts
Secondary accounts are not permitted for any reason. If you have more than one member per household please notify us in advance of applying for a second account from the same IP address. If we do catch you using a second account without having first notified us, you will be subsequently banned for a week. If this action continues, you will have another banning of two weeks. If you continue to do so, a permanent ban will be issued.
4) Punishment
If there is a problem with your conduct, one of the moderators will warn you in a private message.
If the problem persists, action will be taken. This may include restricted posting, a temporary ban, or a permanent ban with attached IP ban.
If you're disrupting the forum but you deserve the chance to argue your case your rank will be changed to "Defendant". As long as you are at this rank you will be able to send PMs but you will have no posting access. Please wait for a mod or admin to contact you so that the situation can be resolved. This should happen within minutes of the rank change.
Posting on a "Defendant" member's behalf is not permitted. Don't worry, we'll handle it.
Technical Rules:
1) IP Address
By signing up, you agree to giving your IP address to the administration. You agree that you will keep the same IP address unless you are physically forced to change it by your ISP or any other official means.
Changing of IP address to get around a ban will result in serious punishment, to be decided by the administration. Masking (cloaking) your IP address (making it invisible, inaccessible) is also not allowed.
2) Account Security and Hacking
Gaining access to another member's account, or using tools (i.e. keylogging) to gain access to another's account is both prohibited and illegal and offenders will be banned.
'Hacking' any area of the Metroid Fan Forum - be it changing a membergroup, accessing the admin panel, hacking into the database used to store information or any other sort of unauthorized access is both prohibited and illegal. We will ban you and inform your ISP.
Should we be forced to make your ISP aware of your misuse of your internet connection, your internet access will almost certainly be removed and depending on the severity of your offense you may be prosecuted at the criminal level, with penalties ranging from community service and heavy fines to imprisonment.
3) Discussion
Discussion of illegal activities such as software and music piracy and other intellectual property violations are not allowed.
